Codex

Codex, without the desktop app.

Start and steer Codex from your phone on any computer you’ve paired, including a Linux machine with no screen. Approve commands, answer questions and see what’s left of your limits.

From your phone

  • Start a thread in one of the computer’s projects or a new folder. It runs in Codex’s own app-server and keeps going if Dashup restarts.
  • Pick up a saved Codex conversation nothing else has open.
  • Approve commands and edits, answer questions, and stop a turn.
  • See each thread’s model, reasoning effort and fast mode, and change them for its next turn.
  • See what’s left of each Codex login’s usage limits.

Where Codex Remote stops

OpenAI’s Codex Remote pairs your phone with the ChatGPT desktop app on a Mac or Windows PC. You can’t set it up from the Codex CLI or the IDE extension, and Linux isn’t among its hosts.

Dashup pairs with the computer instead of an app. Its connector runs on macOS, Windows and Linux, and on a Linux server it keeps running after you log out.

Good to know

A thread open in the Codex TUI or another app keeps its approvals in that window. From your phone you can read it, and reply while it’s idle.

The computer has to stay on. Codex Remote has the same rule.

Details of other products checked against their documentation in October 2026.

Set up once. Then leave.

Run this on each computer you want on your phone, scan its code with the Dashup app, and let Dashup keep running in the background. The computer has to stay on. Dashup can’t wake it.
